Endnote Citation: Define and Prepare It Properly
Even if you like writing, it usually doesn’t include making citations. And really, they are such a headache, and each comma counts! Some students absolutely seriously believe that teachers invented that endnote citation to make the student's life more complicated. But the students aren’t right, of course.
First of all, imagine, that you are a great scientist or a famous (or not too famous) author. And suddenly, you come across some work, that is full of your ideas. Moreover, it is full not only of ideas but of the sentences that you have written! How would you feel? That would be not the best feeling, wouldn’t it?
However, if the paper’s author makes some marks to show that those ideas don’t belong to him, moreover, when the author indicates that those are your ideas, you would be happy. It means that somebody reads your works and even considers them important enough to mention them in the own paper.
What Is an Endnote Citation: Purposes of the Use
So, what is an endnote citation? How does it work and for which purposes is it used? As you can already guess, it is used to indicate the words of another person. As well, it is used to indicate the source from where it was taken, as well as its exact location in the source, if needed. Basically, the endnote definition could be like this: an endnote citation is a means to show another author`s thoughts with the indication of the author and the source.
How to Insert an Endnote in Word: Detailed Instruction
So, how then to insert an endnote to Word? Are there any detailed instructions that could make the life of a student simpler? Usually, endnotes are marked in the text with a raised number. It indicates the number of a particular endnote in a list. And the entire list of endnotes is usually provided at the end of the essay or another kind of paper, on the last page. So, to insert an endnote, just do the following:
- Open your Word document;
- Above in the ribbon, find the References tab;
- Click on it;
- There, just under the tab name, you will see this option;
- Move your cursor in the position where you want the endnote to be placed;
Congratulations! Your endnote is marked now in the text with a number.

- Place the cursor in the location where you want to see your citation;

- APA endnote;
- MLA endnote.

NLA endnote citation is used mostly for literary works and is characterized by more freedom. Well, let us say so: a citation in MLA style isn’t even a citation, but rather an explanatory note. For example, you don’t have enough space to discuss all that the author has mentioned, so, you just write:

So, endnote writing is invented not to complicate the lives of students, but to make sure, that the rights of other authors aren’t infringed on.
